MIDEM Classical Award for Ronald Brautigam

It has been announced today in Cannes, that Dutch pianist Ronald Brautigam has received a prestigeous MIDEM Classical Award 2010 for his recording of Beethovens piano concertos nr. 2 & Wo04. Brautigam won this prize in the category Concertos. Other nominees in the same category were pianist Christian Zacharias and violinist Nikolaj Znaider. The members of the jury are chief editors of music magazines such as Gramophone, Fono Forum and directors of classical radio stations ORF 1 and MDR. The award will be presented to Ronald Brautigam on Tuesday 26th January in the Palais des Festivals of Cannes. The prizewinning CD is one of the recordings which Ronald Brautigam made for the Swedish recording company BIS. This CD contains the two earliest composed concerti of which the second piano concerto was written earlier than the first and then edited later which explains the numbering. The concerto WoO4 was written when Beethoven was 13 in 1784. This work has never been published, only the version for piano solo is known. Brautigam has made his own reconstruction of the orchestral score. Brautigam recorded both concerti with the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra with Andrew Parrott as conductor.
